The UGC-NET exam was canceled after the national anti-cybercrime agency discovered the question papers had been leaked on the darknet and circulated on Telegram. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan confirmed the leak and stated the matter is now with the CBI. The exam, conducted on Tuesday, was canceled within 24 hours following credible information from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre. The leaked papers were verified as authentic, necessitating the cancellation to protect students' interests. Over 11 lakh students had registered for the exam. Govind Jaiswal, a joint secretary in the education ministry, assured that a new exam will be scheduled soon, though no date has been provided. The darknet, an encrypted section of the internet, is often associated with illegal activities and is not accessible through standard search engines.
