The University Grants Commission has mandated that Indian universities include the National Cadet Corps as an elective subject. Higher Education Institutions must affiliate with NCC troops to offer this elective. The move, allowed since 2021, aims to benefit cadets, particularly from border areas, and contribute to nation-building. The NCC syllabus for B and C certificates is designed per the Choice Based Credit System under the National Education Policy 2020, granting 24 credit points over six semesters. This elective can only be offered to enrolled NCC cadets, following guidelines issued to vice-chancellors on April 15. The initiative aligns with NEP 2020, allowing flexible subject choices for students.
