Following protests, the Gujarat government reduced MBBS course fees in 13 GMERS colleges. The new fees are Rs 3.75 lakh for the government quota and Rs 12 lakh for the management quota, effective from the 2024-25 academic year. This decision, made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, benefits 2,100 MBBS seats. Previously, the government had increased fees, prompting backlash from students and political parties. The initial hike raised government quota fees from Rs 3.3 lakh to Rs 5.5 lakh and management quota fees from Rs 9 lakh to Rs 17 lakh.
