According to the Directorate of Education, 17,308 students have failed Class IX twice in the 2023-24 session. To address this, the DoE has directed government schools to enroll these students in the National Institute of Open Schooling for the 2024-25 session. Only 6,200 students are currently being enrolled through the NIOS portal. The initiative aims to reduce the high dropout risk among these students. School heads must now counsel students and parents on the benefits of continuing education via NIOS, allowing students to study at their own pace to reintegrate them into regular schools after completing Class X.
