"Nearly after 53 years, our alumnus Dr. Krishna Chivukula has come to give Rs 228 crore as an endowment to IIT Madras. He studied M Tech in aerospace engineering during the 1970s and has since established companies manufacturing components for aeroplanes," said Dr. Kamakoti.

Having pursued his M Tech in Aerospace Engineering at IIT Madras in the 1970s, Dr. Chivukula later earned an MBA from Harvard University. His career includes establishing Indo-US MIM (Metal Injection Molding) with a projected revenue of Rs 1,000 crore, and Shiva Technologies Inc., specializing in advanced mass spectroscopy.
Record-Breaking Fundraising

The institute raised Rs 513 crore during the 2023-24 financial year, a 135 percent increase from the previous year. Of this, Rs 367 crore came from alumni, marking a 282 percent increase in alumni contributions.
