In a revelation that has caught the attention of many, Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan disclosed in the Lok Sabha that a total of 28 Indian students were deported from the USA to India in the year 2023. However, state-wise data was not available for the deported students.  This information was provided in response to questions raised by members of the TrinamoolCongress, Pratima Mondal, and Professor Sougata Ray. Muraleedharan said that the Indian government has expressed concerns to the US authorities regarding such instances and requested them to ensure fairness with regard to the entry of Indian students who hold valid student visas. He added that the Indian Embassy and Consulates in the USA offer consular assistance whenever such issues come to their attention. The ministry and Indian missions/posts abroad are actively involved in organising outreach programmes and issuing advisories.
