West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu has accused Governor C V Ananda Bose of withholding permission to hold the Court meeting of Jadavpur University, which is necessary for hosting the annual convocation on December 24. The Higher Education department had granted consent, but the governor's refusal to allow the Court meeting, citing legal uncertainties, has created controversy. Basu alleges the governor's motive is to oppose the state government, compromising students' rights. Despite the Higher Education department's approval for an Executive Council meeting to discuss convocation measures, the governor's nod is required for the Court meeting. The delay raises concerns about the convocation ceremony, prompting protests from the Jadavpur University Teachers' Association. If the Court meeting is not approved, the university may explore alternative ways to award degrees and certificates to students.
