The birth of any brand starts with conception, birth, a long infancy, followed by teenage and adolescence and onto maturity. The first Chrysalis in the Silicon City came into being at Varthur in the year 2011 with a vision to understand the children, guide them on the right path and strengthening their self-belief to prepare for the examination called ‘LIFE’. In the last five years, Chrysalis has grown in size and has spread its wings in Yelahanka, Whitefield, Bannerghatta and Horamavu. CHRYSALIS stands for Honesty,Commitment, Responsible, Youthful, Sociable, Approachable, Leading, Inspiring and Systematic.

As a leader of an established brand, you need to know yourself and your values.  One should be self-driven, work hard and achieve best results. Nurture honesty and integrity in your faculty and students. Be a driving force in the team and someone in the team could look up to you and motivate the rest to work together. Lead by example, keeping in mind the vision of the school and the objectives without compromising on the quality.

Communication with all stakeholders is most effective when researched, planned and evaluated. Personal observations and conversations are more reliable to gather information about the schools. Empower the faculty to speak to parents or to the neighbourhood the right way as they are part of school family and the right ambassadors. Communication and documentation go hand in hand and they help in solving many concerns.

We believe in creating leaders within the institution; teachers to coordinators to Vice Principal to Principal. When we have trained resources, who are accustomed to the system, they become the torch bearers of the institution. This also gives hope to others that one is recognised for the initiatives and hard work and there is scope for growth in the same institution.

The current pandemic situation has opened a new pathway to connect with the parents.  Chrysalis has ensured that the teachers meet parents online by sending links of the meeting to understand about the child, his/her well-being and academic progress. It reinforces the fact that there is nothing impossible if we have the right mindset and the will to do it. Children are the flowers of the school garden and there is nothing more gratifying than to see these colourful flowers blossoming with right care and fly out as butterflies.

As educational leaders, we face challenges but if we are able to map complex situations that involve tension, apply frameworks that help them make sense of this complexity, and find productive pathways through what may appear as a maze.  At the end of the day, we need to own our decision, be able to give sound reasons for it and defend it in public. Together with the team, we create an ethical learning environment and bring the joy of learning.
