The new decision comes as a part of the amendment to the Haryana Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2011. They will become effective immediately and will be implemented across all government and private schools in the state, most likely even private CBSE schools including those in the NCR cities of Gurugram and Faridabad.

The state government has exacted an extra gazette notification dated January 18 which adds a clause for the Classes 5 and 8 board exams. The Haryana Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Rules, 2022, makes it mandatory ‘to conduct regular examination in the fifth class and in the eighth class or to authorize any other agency having expertise in conducting such examinations, at the end of every academic year, in Government and in recognized private schools in the State’. So, all Haryana schools will now need to conducted these board exams or get them conducted. The step has been taken in order to have a standardized assessment of the expected learning outcomes and regularly check the progress of students.

Students of Classes 5 and 8 will need to pass these board exams to get promoted to the next class. On failing, they would get one extra attempt. The board exam results would be declared by the competent authority within a month of the exams being held.
