“Leadership is about vision and responsibility, not power and gender”

To start with………!!!!      Principals in the 21st century,  could do worse than keep this 19th-century definition in mind as they face the challenges of turning around          failing Schools and work to live up to the ideals embodied in a more contemporary term, What exactly is that the effective Principals do which, in turn, ripples through classrooms and boosts learning, especially in the so-called “Failing Schools”?

●             Shaping a vision of academic success for all Students, one based on high standards;

●             Creating a climate congenial to education in order that safety, a cooperative spirit,    and other foundations of fruitful interaction prevail;

●             Cultivating Leadership qualities in others so that Teachers and others assume their part in realizing the School vision;

●             Improving instruction to enable Teachers to teach at their best and Students to learn at their utmost;

In short, it is both the art and science of managing Men, Machine, Material, Land and Building. When Principals put each of these elements in place — and in harmony — they stand a fighting chance of making a real difference for Students and all other stakeholders to meet the purpose and objectives of using the School premises i.e. the home away from home while imparting education.

School Principals and Leadership Identity: In the last decade, much research attention has been paid to the Nation’s Leadership and the Professional identity of the Schools. It is widely agreed that School Principals play a very important role in School improvement.

International reports point to ‘School Leadership’ as a key factor in Education quality, and recent studies suggest that the Leadership identity of the principals is critical for achieving effective Leadership in Schools worldwide.

A Thematic exploration of the literature relating to School Principals and Leadership Identity I found that the literature reflected in an increasing and intensified interest in the topic of School Leadership as the decade progressed.

Furthermore, a range of emerging subtopics was also identified like: the relationship between school culture and professional identity of the school principals; the influence of ethical and personal factors on the professional development of principals; the dilemmas of balancing education policies and personal experiences; and the relationships between gender identity, racial identity, professional experience/career, training and Leadership Identity.

We at GREEN EDEN PUBLIC SCHOOL(GEPS) tries to analyze key issues emerged from my experiences such as the importance of external and internal influences in the construction of the professional identity of School Principals and the entire teaching fraternity indicate that School Leadership and its relationship with School improvement should remain an important focus for Educational Research investigation.
