SC to hear plea seeking postponement of physical board exams- Education News
The Supreme Court has agreed to list a petition seeking the postponement of the offline board exams for Classes 10 and 12 that are going to be held by the CBSE and various other boards this year.
A bench comprising Chief Justice NV Ramana, Justices AS Bopanna and Hima Kohli took note of a lawyer’s request for an early hearing, claiming that the physical examination should not be undertaken owing to the Covid-19 pandemic situation. Advocate Prashant Padmanabhan said, “This is regarding Class 10 and 12 board exams. Physical examination should not be held due to the pandemic.” Advocate Prashant Padmanabhan’s petition reads, “In most of the States during the lockdown period of June – December,2020, no classes were provided to students. Almost 98% of colleges/schools of all the states had not conducted any online class for students in that period.” “Let the matter go before a bench of Justice AM Khanwilkar,” the bench said. The lawyer also mentioned a plea filed by a child rights activist, Anubha Shrivastava Sahai, which sought directions to the CBSE and other education boards that proposed the holding of board examinations in offline mode for Classes 10 and 12.
In her plea, the activist is also seeking the formation of a committee to decide upon a formula of assessment of students including compartment pupils, and to announce the results within a certain time frame and deadline.
Further, the plea is also seeking directions for boards of education to come up with alternate assessment modes. The CBSE has determined that term two board examinations for Classes 10 and 12 would commence on April 26.
