BHU introduces interest-free loan assistance scheme for economically weak students- Education News

In interest of the students facing difficulties in their education due to their weak economic condition, the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has begun an interest-free loan assistance scheme for students studying at the varsity.

BHU As per the statement, students belonging to families holding a Below Poverty Line (BPL) care, students who lost their parents to Covid-19 or students whose parents died while the child was dependent on them will be provided a yearly assistance of Rs 12,000.

Students will have to secure recommendations from two faculty members to accept the scheme.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Sudhir Kumar Jain stated that the institution will provide all feasible assistance to students in order for them to complete their studies, and that the financial support would be in the form of an interest-free loan.

At least 1000 students will be provided the benefit of this scheme while 200 applications have been received in this regard, and 103 of them have already been approved, as per the statement. The statement further stated that students must repay the loan in installments spanning two years after they get employed. It further said that responsibility for repaying the loans will neither be on the student’s parents nor on the faculty member who had recommended the student’s name.
