Delhi HC seeks responses from Centre & Delhi govt on PIL seeking uniform education system
The central government on Monday, was served a notice by the Delhi High Court regarding a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking directions from the central government to implement a uniform education system, common syllabus and common curriculum in the mother language up to Class 12.
Taking the petitioners’ submission into consideration, an HC bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Navin Chawla sought responses from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Law and Justice, Ministry of Social Justice and the Government of NCT Delhi while fixing the case for August 30, 2022.
The plea argued that the syllabus and curriculum for all entrance examinations such as Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), National Defence Academy (NDA), Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CU-CET) etc, is the same. However, the syllabus and curriculum for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and various state boards vary due to which students do not get equal opportunity in the spirit of Articles 14-16.
Alleging that school mafias do not want a one nation-one education board, Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay, the petitioner as well as a lawyer and BJP leader said, “Coaching mafias don’t want One Nation-One Syllabus and book mafias don’t want NCERT books in all schools. That is why a uniform education system up to standard 12 has not been implemented yet.” She also said that the current education system not only divides society into Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Below Poverty Line (BPL), Middle Income Group (MIG), High Income Group (HIG), and elite classes, but also works against “socialism, secularism, fraternity, unity, and national integrity.”
