Referring to the launch of the Madhya Pradesh government’s ‘Start-up Policy 2022’, he further remarked that North India, especially Punjab, should step forward to promote start-ups as alternate sources of livelihood. The minister further said that Government College Lahore and Punjab University were among the leading educational institutions in the entire subcontinent even before independence, underlining that NEP-2020, in addition to the present start-up surge, offers Punjab a rare opportunity. Reminding academicians and students of the historical context, he said that until independence, the University of Punjab fulfilled the educational needs of a large part of the subcontinent and that the partition has somewhat decreased the geographical limits of the university’s jurisdiction.

Highlighting the merits of NEP 2020, Jitendra Singh added that its provision of multiple entry and exit points is an option to be cherished as it will have a positive impact on students regarding the availing of different career opportunities at different times. He also stated that in the future, teachers could choose this entry/exit option, allowing them professional flexibility and upgradation opportunities, as is done in some western countries like the United States.
