Olympic Values Education Programme launched by Odisha Chief Minister – Education News
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday, launched the Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP), which is a pilot project aiming at disseminating principles-based curriculum to aid children’s active, healthy and responsible citizens.
As per officials, Odisha is the first state in the country to launch OVEP. The programme is based on the Olympic philosophy that learning happens via the balanced development of body and mind. The OVEP programme is built on these pillars, utilizing the universality of sport to enhance curriculum delivery both inside and outside the classroom.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has stated that projects and activities based on OVEP aid in addressing the global challenges of sedentary lifestyles, lack of concentration, and the dropping out of adolescents from school. Initially, the inaugural pilot project aims to reach 32,000 children enrolled in 90 schools across Bhubaneswar and Rourkela and once fully functional, it will impact 70 lakh children across India.
Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik said, “This will be the beginning of (a) new Olympic movement in the country.” He stressed that children would benefit from Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect, in addition to hoping that these collaborations will make a significant contribution to the impactful and holistic development of school children.
