Haryana’s trial run: Classes held in 2 Sonipat, Karnal schools
BAZIDPUR SABOLI (SONIPAT): After a gap of over six months, 40 students of Class X returned to study for a two-day trial run under strict Covid-19 guidelines at Government High School Bazidpur Saboli in Haryana’s Sonipat district on Monday.
The Sonipat school held classes on Monday after the government senior secondary school in Karnal’s Nigdhu village completed its two-day classroom teaching for students of Classes X and XII on a trial basis this weekend. Around 70 students of Class XII attended the school on Saturday and 75 students of Class XII on Sunday.
The Haryana education department had selected these two schools for reopening on a trial basis and to shoot videos of classes in both the schools.
These videos would be then shown to students of other schools across the state through Edusat to explain the protective measures they would have to follow while studying in their schools.

On Monday, 40 students, including girls, wearing masks and observing physical distancing, were welcomed with sanitization of shoes at the entrance of their school in Sonipat district, followed by thermal scanning to record their body temperature and then sanitization of their hands using automatic touch-free machines. Unlike normal times, each student was given a separate desk to study and they carried their own water bottles.
The teacher also wore a mask and used white board to teach the class in place of a traditional chalk-board setup. All the areas of the school were marked with slogans highlighting precautions needed to stop the spread of Covid-19.
Renu Devi, the English teacher at the Sonipat school, told TOI that Class X had 63 students but only 40 were called to school on Monday as only their parents had given consent for them to return to the school. Right from the entrance of the school, two separate bubbles, marked blue and green for boys and girls, respectively, will help the students to enter school by maintaining distance and avoiding physical contact, she added.
Indu, a student of Class X said she was excited to attend the school. “Though there are certain things like the mask on my face and social distance rules to hinder free movement in the school, it is still much better than online classes,” she said and explained that she did not have good Internet connectivity at home. To make matters worse, she also did not have a separate phone to attend online classes. “I am so happy to come back to school,” she added.
Chand Kishor, the school principal said the classes were being held on trial mode in his school and the success of these classes will help the Haryana government decide whether it can allow students of Classes IX to XIII to attend school physically. The second day of the trial run will be held in the school on Tuesday. “Each student’s parents gave written consent to send their wards to school. There is also an isolation ward setup in the school so that if any student faces any issue, he/she can be separated and a doctor can be called,” he said.
Joginder Hooda, the district education officer said that the education department has allocated funds for providing masks, sanitizers and for creating special facilities in the school in sync with Covid-19 guidelines. He said that videography is being done to demonstrate standard operating procedures of classroom teaching and would be sent to headquarters where they would examine the feasibility of permitting schools to start classes.
