Kids boycott classes as parents mark virtual bandh
Gurgaon: Over 3,000 parents in the city on Monday participated in a nationwide online protest, where over 50 parents’ bodies joined, and took to Twitter to observe a ‘virtual bandh’.
Scores of parents, under the banner of Gurgaon Parent’s Association, took to Twitter and Facebook to protest against the private schools that are charging more than the tuition fees and barring students from online classes. Parents asked their kids to not attend any online classes and refuse to oblige the requests of their teachers to record attendance. Students having exams, however, were exempted.
“Parents have had enough and we could see that today. Since morning, parents were tweeting and tagging the ministers and officials so that they could take note of our situation,” said Pradeep Rawat, co-founder of Gurgaon parent’s association.
Although most of the leading schools denied that their students boycotted classes on Monday, others called this move distasteful. “This is shameful indeed. Involving little children into this and playing with their academics is not justified. It is only the freeloaders who want to get the benefits without showing proof of reduced income,” said a principal of a leading private school who didn’t want to be named.
Salwan Public School Principal Rashmi Malik argued that her school has been accommodating all the genuine requests and that the school fee issue has never led to barring any student from online classes.
