Assam to build 119 high schools in tea gardens

The Assam government has begun with the construction of 119 high schools in tea gardens. Until now, these areas had only primary and middle schools.

The Tea Tribes comprise 17 per cent of the state’s population.

The Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said “In more than 70 years after Independence, it is for the first time that high schools will be established in the tea gardens of Assam. It marks a new beginning for the development of education and culture in the tea gardens of Assam,”
