Pune: Open-school intake begins from Dec 1, but Std 10 launch stalled

Pune: Students can apply for admission to standard V and VIII under the Maharashtra State Board of Open Schooling from December 1 to December 31.

The previous state government called the open schooling a bridge to fill the gap between out-of-school children and mainstream schools.

But parents said the promises made by the previous BJP-Sena government to scale up the open-schooling board to standards X and XII have not been kept.

The board was launched in January 2019 with standards V and VIII with assurances to scale up to standards in the next term and standard XII, this year. But parents and students said there is no communication about the term-end examination of the last batch, nor have the standard X or XII registrations started.
