Punjab school teachers to join farmers protest from December 8
Farmers from across the country started a march to New Delhi in protest against the two farm bills passed by Rajya Sabha on September 20. The farmers have been protesting at the Delhi border ever since and despite meetings with the agricultural minister, no solution has come up.
“The Punjab school teachers decided to support the farmers’ struggle after an online meeting of Government Teachers Union Punjab was held under the chairmanship of State President Sukhwinder Singh Chahal,” said Punjab Government Teachers’ Union in a statement.
The teachers union said that the farmers’ struggle was “just and peaceful” yet they are being ignored by the central government which is “not serious about resolving the peasant struggle”.
Schools in Punjab reopened in mid-October for students of Classes 9 to 12.
