Maharashtra schools urge education department to declare Christmas holidays

Schools in Maharashtra have requested the state education department to grant Christmas vacations for teachers and students, to give them a break from online classes. Several teachers have requested the department to give them at least a week-long break, as schools generally do during the festival every year.

Rajesh Pandya from Teachers Democratic Front said “Students are tired due to the online classes that began in June this year. Due to the Covid-19 situation everyone is cooped up at home, so some break is definitely needed. The department has not given an academic calendar this year, thus making it difficult for schools to plan their year. We request that the department at least asks schools to not conduct exams or any sort of assessment this month.”
