Karnataka colleges to reopen from today
Degree, PG, engineering, and polytechnic colleges are all set to reopen for on-campus classes from today. Students who have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine are eligible to attend. Students must also submit consent letters in the prescribed format duly signed by their parents.
Standard operating procedures (SOP) have been issued to institutions and they have been directed to strictly adhere to it, said CN Ashwath Narayan, minister for higher education. “During classes, the physical distance between two people must always be maintained, including when students enter or leave,” Narayan said. “Institutions should take into account the number of students and available classrooms and accordingly make arrangements to maintain physical distancing.” The minister, however, clarified that students who are unwilling to attend physical classes can continue to attend online classes. He said contact classes will be conducted to ensure that their doubts, if any, are addressed. About 74% of students above 18 years of age have been vaccinated and the rest will be jabbed soon, he added.
