Schools look to resume sports practice with curbs
Visakhapatnam: Schools in Visakhapatnam which have a proper sports training infrastructure are looking to resume training for their school teams soon. Schools say that even if practice for sports which involve physical contact such as cricket, football or hockey are not started at this moment, they can certainly start tennis coaching.
Dr N Vallisnath, principal of Visakha Valley School, said, “Social distancing is maintained in sports like table tennis and lawn tennis. In my opinion, we can resume practice for these games. We are planning to resume these sessions shortly.” Sanitisation, hygiene and social distancing would play an important role once we resume, he added.
Palla Satish, the sports teacher of St Aloysius Anglo-Indian High School, a school with boasts of a strong basketball team, said, “We have been making videos on yoga and exercises and sending them to class teachers to pass on to students. Students are getting scheduled breaks between classes to practice those exercises.”
Meanwhile, a few district-level sports associations have resumed practice. DYSY Sarma, president of Visakhapatnam district table tennis association said, “Yes, we have resumed our practice sessions A few national-level tournaments are due and we need to keep our players ready for those.”
