Supreme Court Dismisses Plea Seeking Cancellation Of Board Exams 2022

CBSE Term 2 board exam will not be cancelled! Crushing the hopes of the students who were protesting against board exams being conducted physically this year in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Supreme Court today dismissed the plea today to cancel board exams 2022. The petition was filed by a Child’s Rights activist, Anubha Shrivastava Sahai, seeking internal assessment for all boards. The plea, however, was dismissed, and the Supreme Court stated that the Term 2 Board Exams will be conducted for CBSE, ICSE as well as State Boards.

The plea was heard by a three judge bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and CT Ravikumar.  Justice AM Khanwilkar termed the petition “ill advised” as it creates false hope.

Students from several parts of the country filed the plea in the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of the board exams and evaluation through alternative assessment criteria, following which, the matter was presented before the Chief Justice of India, N. V. Ramana, and he referred the case to the bench of Justice Khanwilkar.

The bench had passed the order of cancelling the board exams and assessing the students through alternative assessment criteria in 2021 in light of the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

‘Cancel Board exam 2022’ was demanded by many students and #cancelboardexams had been trending on social media since a long time, as students had been citing loss of learning due to online classes.

Many national and state boards have released the Board exams 2022 dates. CBSE has issued a notification saying Term 2 exams will commence from April 26, while the CISCE has said the board exams will begin topards the end of April, and state boards are also set to begin board exams from March- April.

Some state boards including Madhya Pradesh and Bihar have already begun their board exams and Maharashtra board exams are geared up to commence from March 4.
