Inculcating spirit of entrepreneurship in  students

“In order to fulfil the dream of making the 21st century India, the way forward is through ensuring that the country becomes self-reliant.” (-Prime Minister Modi on Atma Nirbhar Bharat)

With our Prime Minister becoming vociferous about being self-reliant as the need of the hour for us as a country, the relevance of incorporating entrepreneurial activity at the school level becomes supreme.

It is only at the school level that the base for kindling a thought process can be encouraged; it is here that a child’s mind can be nurtured to give a further push to innovation.

During this global crisis, when several countries are facing economic challenges across the globe, it has become important that entrepreneurial activity be incorporated at school level.

It is time we realise that entrepreneurship education has the mandate to equip the youth with functional knowledge and skill to build up their character, attitude and vision.

The Macualay’s Model of The English Education was designed by “downward filtration method” and catered to meet the requirement of the Britishers who were the rulers then.

In the 21st century and as a progressing nation, we are sure that old ways won’t open new doors.

At the same time, we should not forgo our legacy and imitate other nations which will put us on the path of self-destruction.

If we truly do not want to weaken ourselves as a nation, we need to extricate our educational system out of its Macaulayian traits, and obtain a fresh and untainted understanding of our ideals.

Entrepreneurship education being project based and student centric opens the gateway ensuring students explore and make connections with the real world.

Teachers make key contributions as they facilitate learning as well as instil confidence in students about their ability to start business and providing mentorship, practical world experiences and learning-by-doing approaches.

Networking among teachers helps pass on good practices and improve learning outcomes. Mentorship programmes, short courses and trainings are introduced at the school level by the CBSE Board.

As a progressive school that promotes entrepreneurship, at SAMSIDH MLZS, HSR Branch, Bangalore we connect students to several leaders and alumini as mentors in addition to matching students with appropriate faculty mentors.

Entrepreneurship education is encouraged through our Student Leadership Programme, SAMSIDH CHANGEMAKERS that ensures that students display increased awareness of entrepreneurship as a viable career option.

We encourage students to look beyond regular career options of being a doctor, or an engineer and counsel them to broaden their horizon in the fields of GREEN ECONOMY, SOCIAL STRUCTURE, WELLNESS MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY.

It is important that students take up careers that they are passionate about. In this way, the role of higher education institutions in India should be beyond just teaching and awarding degrees to more broadly influencing the economic development of the country.

We as educationists need to put forth renewed enquiry before the younger generations so that if at all they are imbibed, they are expressed with feelings that become stronger, nobler and grander with time.
