Parents are one of the most important stakeholders in a child’s education.
What should be the extent of parental involvement in a child’s education?
A Potter designs a pot and after making it he checks from inside and also from outside to confirm its strength same way the children are like earthen pot, the inside check is of parent which is emotional and outside is of teachers which is related to all-round development of the child.
The parent chooses the school for the child. Before choosing he / she enquires about the school when his / her expectations are fulfilled he / she takes admission.
Now here the role of parent is important children have more influence of their parents. The parents views about the child’s progress in academics plays an important role in grooming the child.
As we all know the Principal is an epitome in the school. The Principal, the teachers and the Parents should come together and form a pyramid.
This pyramid which is formed for the child will make the child a groomed personality.
The parents can be involved in all the activities of the school. Their suggestions will help the school to understand the way in which the child is learning and also improvise upon the same.
They can also be involved while deciding the syllabus of that academic year and also for extracurricular activities. Parents can monitor the behavioral and academic development of a child continuously and forward it to the school.
This will help the school as well to formulate rules and regulations of the school which benefit the larger student community .
Parents can also suggest the school about the child’s excellence through which the school can boost the child and make him / her the best in that field.
Even when there is a need of emergency in the school, the parents can be called for the aid. The Parents who are professionals can also be invited to deliver a speech.
Some parents are good in academics their Guest lecturers can also be conducted.
The parent’s views about the school will help the school to understand what measures can be taken to improve the school’s standard.
Parent’s advocacy plays an important role in uplifting the school standard working together, the voices of parents and professionals are shaping policy and practice to make a positive difference in the lives of children and their families.
Parents are therefore encouraged to participate in different activities through their elected representatives; wide parental participation in decision related to learning as well as to the organization of the school and its activities, will surely promote transparency between the school and the society.
