Use of Nano-learning technique in Schools

Times of rapid changes, innovations at the speed of thought and in all this the Education industry is not left behind. But we must also bear in mind that it was ages ago that the profound statement was made by the Bard of Avon , who said – Brevity is the soul of wit, and it was not said in vain An advertisement of a few minutes or even seconds has a far reaching impact than a movie for three hours. The Oscar winning documentary –The Elephant whisperers is a testimony to how a short documentary could convey emotions across ages and times.
In this competitive world where everyone is running race against time and competing at every level, the societal environment needed to enrich with latest knowledge, skills, activities and strategies to update them regularly. Of course covid played a major role in this transition; attention span has become one of the biggest bottlenecks for enhancing our cognitive domain. Fragmented content, less focus, visual fatigue and other inadequacies has resulted into crumbling of learning and attention span in the learners. This scenario has brought new challenges to the educational system as how to conduct a smooth and effective teaching-learning process that will help in achieving the learning outcomes in an abbreviated time frame. Learners belong to the instant coffee times where short and brief methodologies began to attract than long hours of lecture and theory.
And this is where “Nano Learning “came into being. TATA motors did have an idea in mind when they created the NANO car keeping in mind the growing population, ideas and all the changes that came alongside .It is also called as bite- sized learning where the learner attains knowledge by taking concise learning capsules or modules. Micro lessons and micro sessions, commonly referred to as Nano learning, are videos containing multimedia-rich material, which explains complex ideas through interesting bytes, leading the next wave of learning in the education sector.

A few pointers on the new small but with an empowered learning outcome can affect the Teaching Learning process.

1. Nano learning endows both learners and teachers to learn quick, more adaptable and instruct effectively.
2. Accessibility of the content has is enriched.
3. It helps in bridging the gap between leading experts and highly effective communication and pedagogy.
4. The learning gaps of the traditional teaching-learning process can be bridged and the retention power of the students is sure to increase.
5. Learning is strengthened in an interesting and invigorating manner.
6. Learners find the process exciting and in turn it’s a happy environment of exchange of knowledge.
7. Nano learning enhances the learning horizon and gives room for creativity and spontaneity.
8. Assessments can be modeled on Flipgrid, Edpuzzle, Mentimeter, Google forms, and many other options that don’t need much of teachers’ time to
assess the students. It is more of a self-assessment than the traditional teachers assessing the students.

It’s for us educators to welcome the new and make the path exciting and wanting for more for our learners. There is much to learn and absorb and small, tiny droplets leave an everlasting taste of joy – of learning, knowing and understanding.
Together with the learners on this adventure!!
