SCHOOL STANDS AS PILLAR IN NURTURING THE 21 ST CENTURY COMPETENCIES IN YOUNG PRODIGIES

The 21 st century education system is aimed to prepare children who thrive for a future driven by globalisation and technological advancements. Providing a strong academic foundation for our young prodigies would help them rise according to a fast-changing world and for that the school and
parents’ community need to work hand-in-hand and assist them in developing 21st century competencies. A strong partnership between home and the school will put our children in good stead for the future.
Any education system is designed to nurture each child to become a confident individual who has a strong and rational conscience. These young minds should thus be taught to be adaptable and resilient in order to be judicious in decision making. The competency to think and innovate
independently will effectively boost the global progress which is in dire need of the intellectuals who communicate effectively. The motive should always be to create self-directed Learners who question, reflect, persevere and take responsibility for their own learning. The 21st century learners
should be trained as active contributors who can work effectively in teams while taking calculated risks and striving for excellence.
The core framework of 21 st century competencies cannot be nurtured in the absence of values. The knowledge and skills must be underpinned by values as they define a person’s character and shape beliefs, attitudes and actions of a person.
The schools today thus aim to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills and values for living and working as adults in the 21st century. To incorporate 21st century competencies in the academic curriculum, schools have refined their teaching approaches and assessment methods. To
enable students to keep track of their own progress, an integrated approach is designed which supports schools in developing tools for holistic feedback and assessment.

The tools help strengthens the qualitative aspects ins students in terms of Physical Education, Art and Music. The subjects form integral part of holistic educational experience for each and every student as they enable the students in developing physical robustness, enhance their creative and expressive capacities, and shape their personal, cultural and social identity. Values and competencies must be explicitly taught at all ends where a child blooms.
At Bal Bhavan Public School, global citizenship runs as a core concept which aims to provide an exposure to numerous opportunities for an overall evolvement of young prodigies at school and development of 21st century competencies in students through a vast range of co-curricular
activities. It is significant for teachers to know students individually. In this regard, the class teacher plays a key role in caring for his or her students, paying attention to their development in every domain. The global citizenship programme is thus invaluable for class teachers to get to know their
students better.

Within school, opportunities are offered for teachers to share and discuss their students’ development profile and needs with them.
Parents also play a critical role as partners in our mission to prepare the young minds for the future.
Time and again, all students and parents are provided with a Holistic Development Profile through the parent-teacher meetings, which keeps the parents updated on their child’s progress in his/her journey to develop these values and competencies. Parents are kept updated on their child’s
progress through formal and informal discussions with the school counsellor and the class teacher. Together, we work hand-in-hand to nurture our children for a brighter future for all.
