Makkala Dhama: A Residential Educational Center for Girls Opens in Karnataka, Providing Education and Support to Orphaned Children.

On July 8, 2023, the Makkala Dhama, a residential educational development center for girls who have lost their parents during the Covid-19 pandemic, was dedicated after five years of continuous hard work. The objective of Makkala Dhama is to provide complete education, from primary education to higher education, to girls who have lost their parents due to Covid-19 in Karnataka, India.

The center has been built in accordance with the regulations of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. It aims to provide various facilities and services to the girls, including moral education, computer training, a well-equipped library, sports training, handicraft training, and an international education system. The center has been developed in association with the Bangalore Kempegowda International Airport Foundation and the model school at Bettakote.

Currently, 220 children from various districts of Karnataka are enrolled and receiving education at the center. The staff and management committee are working tirelessly to promote the center and enroll more children. A Children’s Shelter Management Committee has been formed, comprising managers, human resource professionals, educators, and retired government officials, who are all dedicated to the development of the Children’s Shelter.

Mr. Hari K Marar, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer, Bangalore International Airport Limited.

Dr. Balasubramaniam, Member-Human Resources, Capacity Building Commission, New Delhi, Government of India.

Dr. Shalini Rajneesh, Additional Chief Secretary to Govt., Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Government of Karnataka.

Mr. Rajendra Hinduja, Children’s Home Committee Member.

The inaugural program took place from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm on July 8, 2023.

The Sparsha organization and the MakkalaDhama center request support and cooperation from individuals and organizations to make the center successful. They also seek assistance in spreading information about the center throughout Karnataka to reach and support more girls in need.
