Maharashtra: Class IV staff for schools on contract now
MUMBAI: School education department will allow appointment of class IV employees in schools on contract. School managements criticised the move. The department on Friday issued a circular stating that when a person retires in government or aided schools, new appointments must be made on a contract only.
These positions include peons, cleaning staff, security guards and laboratory attendants. They will also have to be filled at the school level, instead of government. Schools will be given Rs7,500 a month for most corporations but schools in Pune and Mumbai will get Rs10,000. “Such people interact directly with students. The allowance is not enough to get people who will continue for long, helping build trust,” said Prashant Redij, spokesperson, Mumbai Principals’ Association.
