Chandigarh schools to now train new students for Pisa
CHANDIGARH: With the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) exam been postponed for a year due to coronavirus pandemic, the UT Chandigarh will now have to train a new set of students for PISA 2022. The students, who were supposed to participate in PISA 2021, have now become ineligible. The UT education department had recently asked schools to furnish details of students who will participate in the test in 2022.
Sharing details, an official from the department said, “Due to coronavirus, PISA test has been postponed from 2021 to 2022 and accordingly the age group of students born between February 1, 2004 and January 31, 2005 has now been excluded from the list of students to be part of PISA test. New students, who are going to participate in the test, are those who are born between February 1, 2005 and May 31, 2007.”
The department stated that, “Kindly update the data of your schools for students whose date of birth is between February 1, 2005 and May 31, 2007 on PISA portal. We have shifted the data of students who were born between February 1, 2004 and January 31, 2005. Now, this birth range is not eligible for PISA test.”
The PISA, which was scheduled in 2021, was postponed by a year and will now be held in 2022, TOI had reported earlier. PISA is conducted after every three years.
Schools run by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) and schools in the UT of Chandigarh will participate in the assessment.
Participation in PISA would lead to improvement in the learning levels of children and enhance quality of education. It would lead to indirect employment generation, through recognition and acceptability of Indian students among employers and prepare them for the global economy in the 21st century.
