With abundant wealth of knowledge and umpteen years of experience to her credit, Dr. Sara George Muthoot’s commitment in the field of education and social welfare for more than five decades has contributed substantially in giving shape to the nation’s education policies and reforms.

An epitome of grace, poise and simplicity, her personality is a harmonious blend of the traditional and the modern, laying a very high degree of emphasis on nurturing Indian values and ethos amongst our children. Her quintessential attributes make her a perfect role model to many aspiring career women, particularly in the field of education. Born and educated in Kerala, Dr. Sara George Muthoot completed her post-graduation from the prestigious St. Teresa’s College, Cochin. She was conferred an honorary Doctorate by the Open International University, Colombo for her distinguished contribution to the cause of education.

Dr. Sara George Muthoot has always been very daring, and has taken tough decisions alongside lending a compassionate ear to listen and heed to the needs of her children, parents and teachers.  Her mission to educate and empower each child as her own is one that is priceless. Strong from the exterior yet so compassionate from within, she truly understands how each child is gifted with unique qualities. As an architect to the future generation, she believes that a good educator does not conform to a defined mould, but goes beyond it to empower students to become the people they are meant to be in the world.


She took over as the Principal of St George School, New Delhi in 1982. From then to its present status of being one of the finest schools in Delhi, the school has witnessed a tremendous growth. All this has been made possible due to her dedicated and untiring efforts that a small and relatively unknown institution of the early 80’s has become a dream school today to many. She now overviews the functioning of St. George School & Paul George Global School, which are both parts of St. George’s Education Society; as a Director, guiding and contributing to their effective and holistic growth, as well as their all-round development.

Her journey as an achiever has been worth cherishing with many notable awards to her credit, which she humbly dedicates to her students who have been her constant source of encouragement. From a conventional system of education to the modern era, she has been mentoring various teams and building trust with continuous and long-term associations. To her, the realms of education have no boundaries for students even when they complete their formal education. The beauty of her ties lies in the fact that the alumni reach out to her in different ways to express gratitude in many forms. She simply smiles with a humble sense of achievement, and an even greater sense of contentment.

Some of the awards conferred upon her so far include the Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award for 2019& 2012, Excellence in Education Award 2014 by Confederation of Education in Excellence, Special Appreciation Award 2013 by Kennedy Space Centre, NASA, USA, Best Principal Trophy 2013 and 2011, Best Principal of the State 2012, State Teacher’s Award 2012, Shiksha Rattan Puraskar 2012 for Meritorious Services in the field of Education, CBSE & ICSE Pariksha Award 2009, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Rashtra Seva Shikshak Award2003, and Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Samriti Rashtriya Shikshak Samman 2000. She also received the Gem of India Gold Medal 2012 at House of Lords, UK, and the State Teacher’s Award 2012 conferred by Smt. Sheila Dikshit, CM of Delhi

Dr. Sara George Muthoot has been a dynamic trend-setter in making education a one-to-one dialogue with the student, as the core of the teaching-learning process. St. George’s School’s motto ‘Spread the Light’ is at the heart of everything done by her as a catalyst to bring about a positive change in the education system. The pillars of her core strength namely the three “I’s –Inspire, Ignite and Instill” have been very instrumental in overcoming the trials and tribulations encountered during her journey.

Quoting famous examples from the lives of great people, Dr. Sara George Muthoot ignites the ‘Spark of Knowledge’ and ‘Awareness about Self’ amongst her pupils. According to her, it is very interesting to note here that some of the most successful people in the world are the ones who have had the most failures. It is in this context that she preaches, “Let your failures define you; let them teach you. Unravel the power of visualization. Visualize success as you dream and pursue your dreams with action. To succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.”

The country needs more visionaries and social crusaders like Dr. Sara George Muthoot who have daringly gone beyond their call of duty to make an exemplary contribution to our society. She adds, “Let us awake, arise, walk the path and stop not till the common goal is reached for the larger good of humanity!” This is indeed, a highly inspiring thought for students, teachers and countrymen at large.
