Mr. Gardner’s life and work inspire educators and students, reflecting a legacy that transcends traditional classroom teaching.

A Rich Heritage and Lifelong Commitment to Education

Russell Valentine Gardner hails from a prestigious Anglo-Indian family with a legacy that spans generations. His lineage traces back to Colonel William Linnaeus Gardner, the founder of Gardner’s House, which eventually became the Second Lancers of the Indian Army. Growing up in such an environment, Mr. Gardner was instilled with discipline, a strong sense of responsibility, and a deep respect for values.

While his heritage shaped much of his early life, his passion for education truly defined his career. Since 1980, Mr. Gardner has served as the Principal of St. Thomas’ College in Dehradun. However, his influence extends beyond the school walls. Mr. Gardner has actively shaped educational policies in India, serving as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from 2002 to 2007 and again from 2012 to 2017. His involvement in politics allowed him to directly contribute to discussions on education reform, helping ensure that the needs of students and teachers were met at the policy level.
