Patna University to Release First UG Admission Merit List on June 11: Here’s Everything You Need to Know

Patna University (PU) is all set to release the first merit list for undergraduate admissions for the academic session 2025–26 on June 11. This follows the conclusion of the online application process, which received a significant response from students. According to university officials, approximately 10,000 applications were received for around 4,500 sanctioned seats across various undergraduate courses in arts, science, and commerce, under both regular and self-financing streams.

The merit list will be published on the official website of Patna University. Shortlisted candidates must secure their admissions within the specified time window; otherwise, they risk losing their allotted seat.

Admission Schedule: Important Dates to Remember

PU's Dean of Students' Welfare, Prof. Anil Kumar, shared the full admission schedule:

  • First Merit List Release: June 11, 2025
  • Admission Dates for First List Candidates: June 13 to June 16
  • Second Merit List Release: June 19
  • Second List Admission Window: June 21 to June 24
  • Third and Final Merit List Release: June 27

Merit-Based Admission: No Entrance Exam for 2025–26

For the 2025–26 academic year, Patna University has waived the entrance examination. Admissions will be purely merit-based, determined by the marks candidates secure in their Class XII (plus two) board examinations.

This move ensures a quicker and more transparent admission process, especially as the university accommodates a large volume of applicants. Prof. Kumar noted that nearly 12,000 students applied for admission this year, with competition being particularly intense for honors courses and vocational programs.

Seat Distribution Across PU Colleges

The undergraduate seats are spread across five constituent colleges under Patna University. Here's a breakdown of sanctioned seats per college:

  • Patna College: 930 seats
  • Patna Science College: 750 seats
  • B N College: 1,130 seats
  • Magadh Mahila College: 1,156 seats
  • Vanijya Mahavidyalaya: 525 seats

These colleges offer various four-year degree courses under the regular stream and three-year degree programmes under the self-financing stream.

How to Download the Merit List and Secure Admission

  2. Log in to the application using your ID and password to download the allotment letter.

Admission Transparency and Next Steps

PU’s admission process has been structured to maintain maximum transparency and efficiency. Merit lists are entirely based on academic performance in qualifying exams, ensuring that no subjective criteria influence the selection process.

Following the release of the first merit list, subsequent lists will accommodate students on a waitlist basis, providing them with a second and third chance at securing admission, depending on seat availability.

Prof. Anil Kumar emphasized that students must act promptly and carefully follow the admission protocol laid out by the university. Any lapse in documentation or deadline compliance could invalidate a student’s application, even if they appear on the merit list.

With over 12,000 applicants vying for 4,500 seats, admission to Patna University’s undergraduate programmes remains highly competitive. Students who have applied should stay vigilant, check the PU website regularly, and ensure that they complete all admission formalities within the allotted timeframe.

This is a critical time for aspirants looking to start their academic journey at one of Bihar’s most reputed universities. Proper planning, timely action, and adherence to official guidelines will be crucial to securing a seat successfully.
