After a long wait of 7 months, schools in India have finally started to reopen. And soon, Kendriya Vidyalaya’s or KVs and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya’s or JNVs would be leading the reopening of schools in India. As per the information shared, KVs and Navodaya Vidyalaya’s are planning to reopen schools across India from November 2, 2020. The process to assess the situation has started and reports are being collected. The schools would initially reopen for students of classes 9 to 12.
With the nod received from the Central Government, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education, the central schools have started collecting feedback from the stakeholders. There are a total of 1250 KVs and 650 JNVs in the country in which about 15 lakh students are enrolled. JNV – notably, are residential schools and would also require to follow the SOPs for Hostels along with the other guidelines as issued by the Central Government. Latest
After the Unlock 4.0 Guidelines approved the reopening of schools on voluntary basis for students of classes 9 to 12, the KVs had decided to reopen the schools from September 21, as per the permissions. However, the parents had been unwilling and the plans were shelved and schools continued to offer online classes.
The schools have again reached out to the parents and teachers along with other authorities within the districts to consider the situation and provide feedback. It may be noted that state government run schools have already started to function in various states across the country.
States of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Assam, Himachal Pradesh have already reopened their schools. The attendance is, at present, strictly voluntary and has seen only a few students. However, the signs have been positive and reassuring. Mostly the student of classes 9 to 12 have been permitted by the states, with consideration of the board examination. Haryana, on the other hand, has permitted reopening the schools for students of classes 6 to 12.
As for the nursery and primary classes, the schools continue to remain closed. No state has given permission to reopen schools for the primary classes as yet. Colleges, which had also closed along with schools, are also eyeing the possibility of reopening in November. Final decisions are awaited.
