BHU Launches All-in-One News Portal to Showcase Campus Growth, Research, and Student-Centric Initiatives
To improve communication and transparency within the academic community, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has officially launched a dedicated news portal — news.bhu.ac.in. The platform will serve as a central hub for news, updates, research achievements, student activities, and faculty development, reinforcing BHU's mission to stay connected with its stakeholders and the public.
The portal was inaugurated on May 25, 2025, in a formal ceremony attended by senior faculty members, administrative staff, and interns from the External Communication Department.
A One-Stop Information Platform for All Stakeholders
Designed to function as a comprehensive resource, the portal includes dedicated sections for:
- University news and announcements
- Academic initiatives and research projects
- Achievements and awards
- Patents and innovations
- Faculty and student programmes
- Video gallery and media content
This new platform reflects BHU’s commitment to transparency, outreach, and academic visibility, by compiling all significant updates in one easily accessible online location. For students, researchers, faculty, and alumni, the site aims to offer a holistic overview of what’s happening across the campus in real time.
Launch Led by Key Faculty Members
Professor Rakesh Raman, Coordinator of the Computer Centre, spearheaded the portal's launch. He emphasized the role of technology in improving outreach and proposed linking the portal with Namaste BHU, the university’s existing app, to ensure wider digital access for students, parents, and university staff.
Other key participants at the launch included:
- Professor Rajesh Kumar, Deputy Coordinator
- Naveen Chaubey, System Manager
- Professor Anurag Dave, Professor-in-Charge of External Communication
- Dr. Rajesh Singh, Public Relations Officer
Interns from the SRK External Communication department also played a crucial role in developing and implementing the site. Professor Dave appreciated their contribution, calling the portal an effective tool for sharing opportunities, research, and achievements of the university community.
Next Steps: New Features and App Integration on the Horizon
During the launch, System Administrator Naveen Chaubey announced that the current version of the portal is just the beginning. Future updates will include enhanced functionalities designed to make the portal even more resourceful for students, faculty, researchers, and the public. While specific features were not detailed, the development team hinted at potential interactive tools, event calendars, and resource-sharing capabilities to be rolled out soon.
Assistant PRO Chander Shekher Gwari described the initiative as a "one-stop shop for all major university updates," underscoring the portal’s role in consolidating communications and making them easily navigable for users.
Boosting Public Engagement and University Image
Professor Rakesh Raman emphasized the portal's role in enhancing the university’s public image. By creating a transparent and up-to-date window into university life, BHU hopes to inform and engage a wider audience, including potential students, researchers, and collaborators.
In today's digital-first world, such a platform is vital for institutions to showcase their accomplishments and ongoing work in a structured, user-friendly format. For an institution of BHU’s legacy and scale, this move is also a strategic step toward digital modernization and community outreach.
BHU’s National Role in Digital Education
The portal's launch comes shortly after another significant development—BHU has been appointed as the national coordinator for Institutions of National Importance (INIs) on the SWAYAM platform. This designation tasks the university with administering online courses developed by over 160 top institutions, including IITs, NITs, and Central Universities.
This role places BHU at the center of India’s digital education movement, making the need for a transparent and dynamic communication platform all the more critical.
The new portal aligns seamlessly with this national responsibility, allowing BHU to spotlight its academic contributions and institutional leadership at the regional and national levels.
Conclusion: A Digital Leap for a Historic Institution
The launch of news.bhu.ac.in marks a digital milestone for Banaras Hindu University. As one of India’s most prestigious educational institutions, BHU is taking clear steps to adapt to modern communication needs while honoring its academic legacy.
Whether you're a student seeking updates, a researcher exploring collaboration, or a parent staying informed, this portal offers a clear and organized window into everything BHU stands for and aspires to achieve. With plans for future enhancements and possible app integration, this initiative is poised to play a key role in BHU’s outreach and community engagement strategies.
