In a significant cabinet reshuffle in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has reassigned the portfolio of Bihar Education Minister Chandra Shekhar to Alok Kumar Mehta. Chandra Shekhar, a member of the RashtriyaJanata Dal (RJD), will now head the Ministry of Cane Development. Lalit Kumar Yadav, another RJD member, has been given the Revenue and Land Resources Department, in addition to his existing responsibility for the Public Health and Engineering Department. This reshuffle comes after Nitish Kumar appointed new leaders to the Janata Dal United's (JDU) national office bearers. NitishKumar's close aide, Vashishth Narayan Singh, has become the national vice president, replacing Mangani Lal Mandal, who is now a national general secretary. The reshuffle follows the departure of Rajiv Ranjan Singh "Lalan" last month, who resigned to focus on his Lok Sabha seat in MungerNitish Kumar has assumed the role of party president after Lalan Singh's resignation.
