As the academic year 2024-25 approaches, indications suggest that the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is gearing up to introduce new textbooks, albeit selectively, with Classes 3 and 6 expected to receive the updates.According to sources within the Ministry of Education (MoE) who spoke to the media, the NCERT is prioritising the release of new textbooks for Class 3 and 6 for the upcoming academic year. Textbooks for Classes 1 and 2 have already been rolled out in alignment with the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) and National Education Policy 2020. The development of new textbooks involves a meticulous process, starting with the drafting of the initial content. Textbook drafts for Class 3, including subjects like English, Hindi, Urdu, Maths, and Environmental Studies (EVS), are currently undergoing proofreading, editing, and vetting by the NCERT. Similarly, drafts for Class 6 textbooks in subjects like Maths, Science, and languages are also in the finalisation stage. The timeline for textbook development is tight, with editors instructed to expedite the proofreading process to ensure timely publishing and distribution.
