The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Guwahati) in collaboration with SamagraShiksha Assam organised a Science and Maths Olympiad. A total of 1.14 lakh students of 3,828 schools of Assam participated in the Olympiad. Chandan Kasuhik Saikia of Namdeuri High School, Jorhat, bagged the first position. Jnanarun Hazarika of DhalasatraHigh School, Jorhat, and Arjun KarkiHawaipur High School, West Karbi Anglong, grabbed the second and third position, respectively. The IIT Guwahati said the aim of the competition was to foster scientific curiosity and mathematical proficiency among students in the state. “The contest aimed to nurture talent, promote critical thinking, and enhance problem-solving abilities among the students in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects,” the institute said. The Olympiad comprised two phases. The first phase was an OMR-based physical pen-paper test for secondary school students across Assam. It was designed to assess the students’ understanding and application of scientific and mathematical concepts, followed by a state-level round. The district-level test was conducted on March 18.
