Background

The Punjab Public School was started in 1960 with a view to provide quality public school education. The guiding force in the opening of this school was Sardar Partap Singh Kairon, who was the then Chief Minister of Punjab. The school was formally inaugurated by the President of India Dr Rajendra Prasad on April 11, 1961. Mr JK Kate was appointed as the first Headmaster on December 30, 1959. It was initially named as ‘Sainik School’ since its purpose was to be a feeder to the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla. The school has made a difference in northern India by its proactive approach. It has produced quality leaders in all walks of public life. The school has adapted to evolving pedagogies in keeping with the times. Over the years, the Nabhaites have chartered new territories and made their alma mater proud by achieving top positions in various professions. Today the Old Nabhaites hold leading positions of prestige, status and authority in their chosen professions at national and international level.

Infrastructure

Spread over an area of 105 acres, the school boasts of a huge infrastructure. The school is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi. The Senior Block caters to students from Classes VII to XII (CISCE) and Cambridge students from Grade VI to AS and A Level. The Junior Block takes care of students from Classes IV to VI. The libraries in senior and junior school have as many as 12,000 and 4,000 books respectively. There is a state-of-the-art Girls Hostel in Junior School. Junior Boys stay in spacious dormitories in the Junior School. All boys and girls of Junior School and girls of Senior School have their meals in Junior Mess. There is a Swimming Pool and a Riding Arena as well. There are 50 horses in the stable. There are lush green playfields opposite to Junior School. All Inter-House Sports Competitions and major functions take place here. An auditorium with a seating capacity of 550 is situated in the Senior School. There are dormitories for senior boys in Sham Bagh. There is a Multi-Facility Sports Complex offering games like table tennis, taekwondo, badminton plus a gymnasium for body building enthusiasts. Other facilities include squash court, lawn tennis, basketball and volleyball. All senior boys have their meals in JK Kate Dining Hall.

Academics & Pedagogy

We offer medical, non-medical, commerce and humanities streams. Our teachers keep themselves updated by attending workshops and implementing evolving pedagogies. There are interactive panels installed in almost every classroom. Teachers use multimedia for the effective delivery of lessons. The thrust is on developing critical thinking among students as per the provisions of NEP-2020 and NCF. We aim to turn them into independent learners.

National Cadet Corps (NCC)

The school has Army, Naval and Air Wings of National Cadet Corps to train the students in their budding years for their induction into the armed forces in later life. More than 150 of our boys are currently in the rank of colonel and above.

International exposure

The students get international exposure through Round Square, MUN, AFS and a host of other platforms. They attend the Round Square International Conferences quite regularly.

Co-curricular and extracurricular activities

A number of clubs and societies ensure the students are gainfully engaged throughout the academic session. Public speaking and debating are a regular feature in the school. In house forums on Saturdays, students get an opportunity to express themselves on a host of issues.

Admission

The Punjab Public School is an ideal choice for anyone who wants to make it big in life. There is an entrance test held annually for Classes IV to IX in February and for Class XI (Medical, Non- Medical, Commerce & Humanities) in March. The students are inducted purely on the basis of merit.

Recent accolade

The school was ranked No. 8 in Co-Ed Boarding Schools category in the year 2022-23. The School was ranked No. 1 in Punjab. Under the leadership of Dr. D.C. Sharma who is the current Headmaster of the school.
