The chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) in India, M JagadeshKumar, has announced the revision of the syllabus for the National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET). The decision was made in a meeting held on November 3, and an expert committee will be formed by UGC to carry out this revision. The move comes after the launch of the National Education Policy (NEP) in 2020, which has prompted a need for updates to the syllabi to align with the developments in higher education, emphasizing multidisciplinary curricula and holistic education. Candidates will be given ample time to adapt to the new syllabus before it is introduced in UGC-NET, which is conducted twice a year for Junior Research Fellowship and assistant professor positions in various subjects. The last update to UGC-NET syllabi was initiated in 2017.
