A high-level panel at the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in India, chaired by C I Issac, has recommended the inclusion of epics such as the Ramayana and the Mahabharata in social sciences textbooks. The committee suggests displaying the preamble of the Constitution on classroom walls to instill values like democracy and secularism. Other recommendations include replacing 'India' with 'Bharat' in textbooks, introducing 'classical history,' and emphasizing "Hindu victories" in textbooks for classes 3 to 12. The NCERT is revising the school curriculum in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and the new textbooks are expected to be ready by the next academic session. The recommendations will be considered by the National Syllabus and Teaching Learning Material Committee for finalizing the curriculum.
