The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released a notification addressing the concerns of Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) who had to leave Ukraine due to the pandemic or war. FMGs returning to India after completing their medical education in foreign institutes, either offline or online, will need provisional registration from the State Medical Council and undergo a one-year Clinical Rotational Medical Internship (CRMI). Stipends will be provided to these FMGs in parity with Indian medical graduates. Those with breaks in their final or penultimate years due to the pandemic or war will undergo clinical clerkships in India, and they have the option to continue their studies in a different country. The degree will be awarded by the migrating university, and this option must be exercised within three months of the public notice. The NMC's notification provides a framework for FMGs to address the unique challenges they faced in completing their medical education abroad, considering disruptions caused by the pandemic or war.
