The issue of reservation for children in private schools was raised during the winter session of the Punjab assembly. Banga MLA Sukhwinder Singh Sukhi inquired about the number of children admitted to private schools under the reservation policy and whether a budget was allocated for it. The Education Minister, Bains, cited the Right to Education Act, stating that free education is provided in government schools. He highlighted efforts to address teacher shortages and improve school infrastructure. In response to another question about Schools of Eminence (SoEs), Bainsmentioned the conversion of 117 government schools and the allocation of funds for construction and teacher recruitment in these institutions. Education Minister Bainsresponded by emphasizing the provision of free education in government schools under the Right to Education Act. He highlighted efforts to address teacher shortages and improve school infrastructure, mentioning a significant reduction in teacher-less schools.
