The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that it will not assign divisions or distinctions to students in class 10 and 12 board exams. The decision, conveyed by CBSE Examination Controller SanyamBhardwaj, allows admitting colleges to decide the best five subjects for calculating marks. If a candidate has more than five subjects, the admitting institution or employer will make this determination. The Board will not calculate or declare the percentage of marks; instead, any such calculation for higher education or employment will be done by the admitting institution or employer. This decision responds to inquiries about the criteria for calculating students' percentages in board examinations. CBSE is set to conduct exams for class 10 and 12 from February 15. Last year, CBSE opted not to issue merit lists or announce toppers for class 10 and 12 exams, aiming to prevent unhealthy competition among students.
