The Assam government, under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has decided to reserve five percent of seats in medical and engineering colleges for students who completed their education in government schools from class 7 to 12. The initiative aims to boost enrollment in government schools. The cabinet also approved funds for industrial projects, including a bamboo crash barrier manufacturing unit and hotels, expected to create 1,400 new jobs. Other decisions include forming a Corporate Social Responsibility Authority, simplifying land categories, and addressing pending provident fund dues for tea garden workers. The next cabinet meetings will be held in Lakhimpur and Nalbari in January and February, respectively.
