The Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar, has informed the Rajya Sabha that 157 government medical colleges have been approved under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme, with 108 already functional. The government claims an 82% increase in medical colleges and a 112% increase in MBBS seats from before 2014. The expansion is taking place in three phases, with new colleges being launched across various states and union territories. This statement follows the Union Health Minister's claim in October about the doubling of medical colleges in the country over the past nine years. These initiatives reflect a comprehensive approach to address the growing healthcare needs of the country, ensuring a substantial increase in both medical colleges and healthcare facilities. The government's focus on enhancing medical education and infrastructure is seen as a crucial step in meeting the healthcare demands of the population.
