Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced the commencement of a four-year BSc-BEdcourse at NIT, Agartala, as a pilot project in the state to train aspiring teachers. The course is part of the Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP), and more colleges are expected to receive approval for ITEP courses from the next academic year. During the 13th Legislative Assembly session, Saha, who also serves as the Education Minister, addressed questions related to District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) colleges, stating that there are seven DIET colleges in the state, with plans for an additional one in Panisagar, North Tripura district. The Finance Department has approved the filling of eight lecturer positions in DIET colleges for the financial year 2023-24, with efforts to recruit teachers underway. While the teaching program for the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) in the DIET College under Dhanpur Assembly is not possible in the current academic year, the newly constructed DIET building is being used for various educational programs by the Department of Education, SCERT.
